Buy your lockdown Christmas tree safely AND help the homeless

IF YOU WANT your Christmas tree to spread some cheer and do some real good this year how about THIS for a great idea?

A young Borders businessman and his friends are determined to help keep your Christmas ‘COVID-safe’ and at the same time bring cheer to the homeless by launching ‘Easy Treesy’, a UK-wide Christmas tree delivery service from their shop in Edinburgh.

Every tree they sell, either from the Edinburgh shop in Morningside Road or delivered free through their website (www.easytreesy.co.uk), sends a 50p donation to Social Bite, a charity running projects for the homeless in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Easy Treesy co-founder Jack Cuddigan explained: “On Christmas Day, Social Bite are handing out presents and serving Christmas dinners to as many of the homeless as they can in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

“Our donations may not be huge but we hope they will help provide great joy for the homeless who benefit.”

Jack, the son of a Northumberland farming family, grew up near Milfield, and his investment partner and friend Charlie hails from Borthwickshiels near Hawick and currently serves in the British Army.

The 25-year-old Borderers came up with the Easy Treesy tree delivery idea “as a much easier and safer way for people to buy a Christmas tree during COVID-19, particularly now we’re al back in lockdown,” said Jack. The idea of using ‘Christmas trees to feed the homeless’ by giving a share of the proceeds to Social Bite grew out of that plan.

“The Edinburgh shop is our base but we offer free delivery throughout mainland UK,” said Jack. “Our trees are the very best Scottish-grown Nordmann Firs which have excellent needle retention, meaning very little mess and a low carbon footprint.

“We are giving a pre-order discount of 10% (quote code XMASJOY10) until the end of November as an early bird offer and we also offer a tree recycling service for an additional fee (Edinburgh only) which sees the tree returned to its home as a wildlife habitat once you’ve finished with it in January.”

It’s a great idea with a charitable context from two foundling entrepreneurs and deserves all of our support. Please spread the word!
